Johnson Supply, one of the country’s leading HVAC/R wholesale distributors, needed a secure facility that would keep its systems up and running throughout hurricane season. The team came to us looking for a fully managed service with 24/7 support.
The Problem: Inadequate protection from severe weather
Prior to moving to TRG, the company had been relying on locations that lacked adequate protection from severe weather. This soon caused issues during Hurricane Harvey.
When a roof was lost from one location, and fuel supplies ran out at another, Johnson Supply’s management decided the time was right to move to a purpose-built facility designed for such events.
After a short discussion about what the company needed, we invited them in for a site visit at our Houston facility.
The team told us they were immediately impressed by the data center’s strategic location and the level of security on offer, given that the facility is fully fault tolerant with a 100% uptime record ever since inception.
TRG’s solution: Fully managed colocation with remote hands on
Johnson Supply ultimately opted for fully managed Colo+, but they began by setting up their first rack themselves.
Once the team learned that our staff could manage the move and set everything up on their behalf, they felt the upgrade to Colo+ would be worthwhile, as it reduced their workload by a significant amount.
The inclusion of free remote hands on and cross connects also made this option instantly cost effective, as did the fact that we supply racks and PDUs as standard.
We’re always available to recommend new options that customers might not otherwise have considered. Our engineers work closely with customers to make sure they’re getting the best value from the services they’re using.
Colo+ has already proven hugely beneficial for Johnson Supply, for both the personal service clients get and the tailored advice they receive along the way.
How it happened: A swift, stress-free move in under 10 hours
Once the first rack was set up and the team opted to change to Colo+, our engineers swooped in and got their second rack set up and online in under 10 hours.
The whole process went smoothly and progressed well within the expected timeframe. We’re pleased to report that neither team was faced with any nasty surprises on the day, thanks to a thorough site visit prior to the move and plenty of time spent narrowing down the finer details of what would be needed and when.
The end result: Significant cost savings and a massive security upgrade
Johnson Supply reported that they’ve saved $8,000 by moving to TRG, and they’re actually getting more for their money despite this reduction in cost, because they now have Colo+ with free remote hands and free cross connects thrown in. And that’s before we even mention the redundancy the company now benefits from.
The team were full of praise for their new data center, telling us that they’re delighted with the upgrade in security, as well as the great customer service our engineers offer. Our engineers’ response times are always fast, which is something that Johnson Supply has really appreciated.
We pride ourselves on acting as an extension of our customers’ own teams, and as Johnson Supply said, they “don’t feel like a number here” as there’s “a personal connection.” They’ve even told us the whole company now sleeps better, particularly as hurricane season approaches!
