Engineering and science consulting firm GSI was in dire need of a data center partner, after a number of disasters struck its server room.
The room was part of the company’s own offices, but it was plagued by power outages and other problems. A/C failures left it at risk of overheating on a number of occasions. And as Ike showed, when it ripped the roof off and left servers vulnerable to water damage, it certainly wasn’t hurricane-proof either.
The problem: Inadequate protection and unexpected power outages
GSI’s previous setup meant that servers were never fully protected. The final straw came when the power was knocked out by a relatively minor storm. The team knew it was time to invest in something safer and more secure.
The team considered a number of options, from cloning its environment in another office to switching to the cloud. But ultimately, after meeting Chris and discussing their predicament with him, they decided to invest in a move to TRG.
The GSI team told us they immediately felt at ease after talking to Chris. His incredible depth of knowledge and fast responses meant that they soon felt comfortable putting their trust in him and our team.
TRG’s solution: Colo+ with 24/7 free remote hands on
Colo+ was the perfect solution for GSI. It allowed them to move their equipment to our data center without having to lift a finger.
Remote hands on has already proved enormously useful for GSI, saving them from having to make unnecessary trips to the data center. And of course it’s completely free.
Already GSI are starting to see us as an extension of their own team, which is what we’re here for. Just recently, a SFP failed and no lengthy data center trips were required. GSI simply shipped a new one over to us, and our engineers replaced it on their behalf.
How it happened: A six-hour migration with no issues to report
This was one of our fastest migrations yet. After weeks of careful planning, the day proved a huge success with everything up and online in under six hours.
The team were delighted with the ease of the process, and all the time-consuming work our technicians took off their hands. They were particularly impressed by the fact that they can now ship equipment directly to us, and we can install it for them. Services like these have already saved huge amounts of time and energy for their staff, allowing them to focus on more pressing demands at their own HQ.
The end result: An end to unexpected power outages, once and for all
GSI has not experienced a single power outage since moving to TRG, and now they’re fully up and running here they certainly won’t have to worry about the prospect of outages ever again.
The new reliability and stability of their connection has dramatically improved confidence amongst GSI’s executives, while also creating a far calmer and less stressful working environment for the company’s IT staff.
When asked whether they’d recommend us to others thinking of making a move, they responded with a resounding “Yes!” They’ve been hugely enthusiastic about the responsiveness of our team throughout the migration process and beyond, too.
We know those quick responses make all the difference to our customers, which is why our technicians are always on hand to help with anything clients might need.
